Being Johanna Kuuva
Biography in the making
—
“Brave girl, sings well.” Diagnosed as a doctor to my parents as a kid. Since then it has been quite the show.
First there was violin. After a while in addition to that singing lessons. That expanded to choir action. Then an accapella singing group. There somewhere in-between I got pushed onto a theatre stage. Soon it was dancing and singing and sports and friends and reading and music and jokes and characters and learning all things new. Suddenly this all started to feel very important reason to exist on this planet and I started pondering the option of combining all these good vibes as a profession - to become an actor.
After graduating from high school in 2008 I got accepted in to the Music department in Lahti AMK. After a very meaningful year studying music, I hit the jackpot and the door to the highly-competitive Tampere University Acting department opened to me. There were 14 of us, I was grinning with smile and fear - I was becoming an actor!
The intense academic learning to become a professional actor took 5 years. I graduated in 2014. Since then I’ve practised my profession and skills in multiple theatres - including Tampereen Teatteri, Kotkan Kaupunginteatteri, Kuopion Kaupunginteatteri, Utran Uusi Teatteri - just to name a few. I’ve had the pleasure of acting in front of the camera too.
Being Johanna Kuuva is utterly exciting and I’m so looking forward what the future holds for me!
